Every homecoming I photograph is an amazing thing to be a part of, but when you get to photograph a homecoming for a friend and neighbor who is welcoming home her husband from Afghanistan, it’s a little extra special.
Around 3:15am on Father’s Day, Courtney and I headed to base so she and her boys could welcome home Adam. For a June morning, it was really, really cold. There were lots of blankets, sleepy kids (and adults!), and anxious people ready to get their arms around their Marines again. Once the formation came walking out of the dark street and into the light of the parking lot, everything was worth it – plus it was the best Father’s Day present for all the kids and dad’s seeing each other again!
