Sometimes, you just need to get away. That’s why my husband and I decided to take a little bit of a last minute trip over the 4th of July weekend. We found out that Tim could travel 450 miles for the weekend without taking leave. Usually we don’t have that much distance, so we took advantage of it and headed out to Asheville, NC and the surrounding mountain area. In 3 days we managed to fit in white water rafting, downtown Asheville, Blue Ridge Parkway, Smoky Mountains National Park, hiking, swimming, Tuckaleechee Caverns, Biltmore Estate, and lots of driving/wandering around exploring.
It was nice to take a break from everything that’s been going on and just enjoy ourselves for a few days, as well as see a beautiful area of the country. There were times when I caught myself thinking things like, “Mom would have absolutely loved this.” I’m getting to a point where as I think of her and John, my reaction is more often a reflecting smile and “I’m okay” rather than a sudden rush of tears and “I can’t do this.” I definitely still have my breakdown moments fairly often, but I’m pushing forward, and that’s all I can do.
I captured some great images on this trip. It’s so refreshing to be in a completely new place and see things with a fresh eye. I believe that you can get great pictures anywhere, but there’s always an added level of excitement when you’re somewhere new.
